21 Days to a More Disciplined Life - Day 4

Day 4: Focus on One Habit at a Time

Do you have several areas of your life that could use improvement? I know I do. Which is why it was difficult to choose just one habit on which to focus over the next couple of weeks. It's tempting to make several changes at once but, as Crystal says, we are more likely to be successful and see lasting change if we focus on only one habit at at time.

Today's assignment involves brainstorming all the positive changes you would like to implement and making a list. Crystal then suggests that we narrow the list down to the three new habits that would make the biggest positive impact.

Here's what I came up with:
  • Establish to a regular bedtime that will allow me to get at least 7 hours of sleep per night.
  • Keep a running list of small projects (10 minute to 30 minute projects) that I can do while waiting. I have been spending a lot of time lately waiting at my children's practices, appointments, etc. and I would like to make better use of that time.
  •  Make and stick to a weekly meal plan that includes make-ahead and freezer meals.
It's now time to put this list away until I feel that my first habit, cleaning the kitchen before bedtime is an established habit.  It hasn't been easy, but with my little incentives/rewards I have been able to stick to this new routine.

Mega Project Step 4

While organizing the canned goods in my pantry yesterday, I realized that I had skipped a step that would have cleared some space and made the organizing project easier. So today I quickly looked over the pantry and discarded any items that were expired or had been opened (or improperly sealed) for an excessive amount of time.

This step freed up space that will make the organizing of future sections a little easier. Hopefully, I won't need to discard food like this in the future. One of the goals of my organized pantry is to be sure that food is stored and rotated properly to reduce waste.

While I don't like to waste or throw away food, it's a good feeling to know that the items remaining in the pantry are items that we will actually use.

How are you doing on your new habit and mega project? I would love to hear about it!
