DIY Frugal Face Wash

Cleaning your face with oil may sound counter-intuitive, but you can read about how and why it works at Simple Mom and Simple Organized Living.

It is so simple to make and very inexpensive. My skin feels fabulous and looks so much better. The process is so relaxing, I like to think of it as my mini-spa treatment.

The two ingredients are: castor oil (to clean) and a second oil to moisturize.

Update: I am currently using this castor oil found on Amazon.

I am using equal amounts of castor oil and olive oil which is the recommendation for normal skin. If your skin is oily, you may need more castor oil. If your skin is dry, more olive oil.

Pour both types of oil into a plastic squeeze bottle , shake it up a bit, and you are ready to go. Here's what you do:
  1. Pour a quarter-sized amount of your face wash on to a dry hand.
  2. Massage the oil onto your face for about one minute.
  3. Run a washcloth under warm water (as warm as you can stand without being uncomfortable).
  4. Use the washcloth to cover your face. Gently press the cloth onto your face for about one minute.
  5. Rinse the washcloth. Then use the cloth to remove any remaining oil from your face.
  6. Rinse the washcloth and repeat if necessary.
Still not convinced? Take a look at this great video tutorial from Keeper of the Home. This video is what convinced me to give homemade face wash a try.

This DIY face wash works better than anything else I have tried for a fraction of the price. Can't beat that!
