Making your own chocolate sauce is simple and inexpensive. It tastes better than store bought sauce. And, you know exactly what's in it...no mystery ingredients.

Here's a simple recipe for delicious homemade chocolate syrup:

1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup water
dash of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla

In a small saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder and salt.

Add the water and bring to a boil stirring constantly. Reduce the heat and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat and add vanilla.

Let cool. Store in a cute canning jar (or other container) in the refrigerator.

Use the sauce over ice cream, as a dip for fresh fruit, or to make delicious chocolate milk.
