Clearing the Air: Removing Cooking Odors

I love the Curry Corn Chowder recipe I posted a few days ago. I don't love the curry odor that resulted.

So here's what I do to reduce lingering cooking odors:

In a small saucepan over high heat, combine 1/2 cup vinegar and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.

Here are some other methods you may want to try:
  • Instead of vinegar, simmer a combination of baking soda and water.
  • Place a small bowl of vinegar near the stove and let sit for a few hours, or overnight.
  • Open your windows and turn on the whole-house fan to get the air circulating.
  • Clean or replace your oven hood filter.
Set out a pretty bowl of vinegar to reduce cooking odors.
