How to Keep Lettuce Fresh

This is one of my favorite tips for keeping produce fresh. Thanks to this great tip, my lettuce stays fresh much longer. The trick is paper towels.

Whether you store the lettuce in a container or a plastic bag, separating layers of lettuce with sheets of paper towels will prevent excess moisture from spoiling the lettuce. Be sure not to pack the lettuce too tightly, just place a paper towel in the bottom of the container, layer some lettuce, then another paper towel. Continue in this manner ending with a paper towel on the top.

Check on the paper towels every few days and replace them when they become damp. I use this method with all types of greens including baby spinach that I often purchase for salads.

I think you will be amazed at how much longer your lettuce will remain crisp when you use this simple tip.
